Parent Support & Consultation Sessions

Understanding Your Child, Supporting Yourself

Parenting can bring some of the most meaningful — and at times most overwhelming — experiences we encounter.

You may find yourself wondering why your child is struggling in a particular way, whether something deeper might be going on, or how best to respond in moments that feel intense or hard to navigate. At times, it can feel confusing, especially when what you’re seeing doesn’t quite fit with the advice or strategies you’ve already tried.

These sessions offer a space to pause, reflect, and gently make sense of what’s happening — both for your child and within yourself as a parent.

A Different Way of Understanding

Rather than focusing only on behaviour, we begin by exploring what might be happening underneath.

Together, we consider

  • your child’s emotional world,
  • their nervous system,
  • and the patterns you may be noticing at home or school.

We may also explore whether further support or assessment, such as ADHD or other neurodevelopmental differences, could be helpful in bringing greater clarity.

Often, parents arrive with a sense that something doesn’t quite fit, but without the language or framework to fully understand it. These sessions are designed to help bring that clarity — in a way that feels grounded, compassionate, and useful in everyday life.

Working with Your Inner World as a Parent

Parenting doesn’t just involve responding to your child — it also involves navigating your own internal responses.

At times, you may notice feelings of overwhelm, frustration, or self-doubt, or a strong sense of wanting to “get it right.” You might find that certain moments feel bigger than expected, or that you’re left questioning your response afterwards.

In our work together, we gently explore these experiences through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) lens — helping you understand and relate differently to the parts of you that show up in parenting.

As your understanding deepens, many parents find they feel more grounded, more confident, and more able to respond in a way that supports connection rather than escalation.

What These Sessions Can Support With

Parents come to these sessions for a range of reasons.

You may be looking to:

Better understand your child's behaviour or emotional responses

Explore whether an assessment might be helpful

Navigate patterns at home that feel difficult or stuck

You may be supporting a child with:

Anxiety

Emotional dysregulation

School-related challenges

You may simply be wanting to feel more confident and settled in your parenting.

Alongside this, there is space to explore your own experience — making sense of the reactions, pressures, and expectations that can arise in parenting, and finding a way forward that feels more sustainable and aligned.

Is This Right for Me?

You might be considering a parent consultation if something in your child’s world — or your experience of parenting — doesn’t quite feel straightforward.

Perhaps you’re noticing that your child’s behaviour can feel confusing, intense, or hard to predict, or that certain moments escalate quickly and leave you wondering what just happened. You may have a sense that something deeper is going on, but feel unsure what that might be, or whether further support or assessment is needed.

You might also notice this within yourself — feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain how best to respond, despite your efforts to understand and support your child.

Or it may be less about specific behaviours, and more a quiet sense that you would like to understand your child more deeply, and feel more confident in how you support them.

You don’t need to have a clear question or a full picture before reaching out. Many parents come with a sense that something isn’t quite working, or could be better understood — and that is enough.

A Thoughtful Compassionate Space

These sessions offer a space to think openly and without judgement.

They may feel particularly helpful if you value a compassionate, reflective approach, and are open to considering both your child’s experience and your own internal world as part of the process.

This is not about getting it “right,” but about developing a deeper understanding — one that allows for more connection, more flexibility, and a greater sense of ease in your parenting.
